Abudefduf septemfasciatus – Banded Sergeant

Abudefduf septemfasciatus was officially described by Cuvier in 1830.

Synonyms: Glyphisodon septemfasciatus, Abudefduf multifasciatus.

Description

Abudefduf septemfasciatus can reach a total length of about 23 centimeters. The body is white in color with six dark vertical stripes. The dark stripes are wider than the white between them. A seventh stripe runs across the head and ends at the eyes. There is a black spot at the top of the pectoral fins.

Biotope

This species inhabits lagoons and reefs in shallow areas with little to medium currents. They occur at depths of zero to three meters.

Its distribution area extends from eastern Africa and Madagascar to the Pacific Ocean and from southern Japan to the Great Barrier Reef.
