Alternanthera reineckii

Stem plant with crisscross lanceolate leaves that show a slight waviness in their leaf margin. The color varies on the upper side from olive green to reddish brown and the underside from reddish brown to light brown.

There is also a smaller cultivar available, Alternanthera reineckii “mini”

Care

This plant does require some light, a rich soil and regular fertilization with CO2 and iron. This fertilization is necessary to keep the leaves and therefore the plant in good condition. It is a nice group plant for the middle/background of the aquarium, but do not plant the stems too close together, as they will block each other’s light.

Propagation

The propagation takes place by means of cutting the tops. They are also quite easy to propagate in an emerse culture.
