Origin

Colombia, Venezuela.

Appearance

Length 7,5 cm.

The Aquarium

Apistogramma hongsloi needs an aquarium of at least 1 meter. Decorate the tank with dense planting, floating plants, driftwood, stones and coconuts so that there are enough holes and hiding places. They prefer a dark substrate.

Water parameters

Temperature: 23-30 degrees Celsius.
PH: 5.5-6.5
GH: 0-4

In nature, fish have to deal with fluctuating temperatures. Keeping fish at the minimum or maximum temperature for a long time is not always desirable and can shorten the average lifespan of the animals.

Diet

You can feed them small live food such as mosquito larvae, artemia, water fleas and cyclops. In the wild Apistogramma filters edible parts from detritus, this can be made in the aquarium by letting leaves digest in the aquarium.

Character

Apistogramma hongsloi is a peaceful dwarf cichlid that can be kept as a couple or in a harem, in a larger aquarium several males (minimum 3) and twice as many females can be kept. They are territorial.

Breeding

Breeding Apistogramma hongsloi is quite difficult, the water must be very soft and acidic. 60 to 90 eggs are laid in a hole and fertilized, the female takes care of and guards the clutch, the male defends the territory. The fry can be reared with artemia-nauplii.
