Betta falx
Betta falx was described in 1998 by Tan & Kottelat. In Latin, falx means piece (as in “cutting a piece”), which refers to the shape of the anal and caudal fins of a courting male.
Origin
The type specimen was caught on Sumatra; Indonesia. Other catch locations are Sungai Alai; Sumatra and Hari river basin; Sumatra.
Length
Total length: 4 centimeters.
Keeping Betta falx
This species is found in rivers, on the planted bank areas. The water had a chemical composition of pH 5.7, GH 0-1, KH 0-1, TDS 30 and the color of the water was light brown. Not much is known about the precise care of Betta falx, it is best to keep Betta falx as Betta picta and Betta simplex.
Breeding Betta falx
Betta falx is a mouthbrooder and is not much harder to breed than Betta picta and Betta simplex. A densely planted aquarium is recommended as well as sufficient hiding places. The rest of the reproduction corresponds to Betta picta.
