Chapalichthys pardalis

Up to species of equal size Chapalichthys pardalis – Polka-dot Splitfin are rather peaceful. They are suited for the community aquarium with other peaceful fishes. The aquarium must be densely planted. A dark substrate and a dimmed light by using floating plants bring out the colors of the fish. A good filter for clear water is necessary.

This species was first described in 1963 by Álvarez.

Diet

Live food should be given as food. Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding Chapalichthys pardalis – Polka-dot Splitfin

Breeding Chapalichthys pardalis is not difficult. They are viviparous. Every 8-9 weeks about 10 young fishes are born. They are already 1,5 cm (0,6″) large and you can feed them fine crushed dry food. It is necessary to plant the aquarium very dense, because the parents eat their young.

Also, see the Chapalichthys pardalis breeding report.
