Haplochromis aeneocolor
This species is particularly aggressive towards conspecifics. Only in a larger aquarium can several males be kept, each of which maintains a territory with a number of females. The aquarium should be set up with stones to create hiding places. Harder plant species such as Giant Vallisneria can also be used for decoration.
This species was described in 1973 by Greenwood.
Synonyms: Astatotilapia aeneocolor, Haplochromis nubilus
Diet
It is omnivorous. There must therefore be sufficient variation on the menu. In the wild, this species would also feed on detritus. Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.
Breeding Haplochromis aeneocolor
Breeding Haplochromis aeneocolor is not easy. The eggs are laid in a pit they have dug before. After that, the female takes the eggs in her mouth immediately. The eggs are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method. The female retires between the rocks because the male chases her. When the young fishes are released you can raise them with baby brine shrimp and fine crushed dry food.
