Hemigrammus cupreus

Hemigrammus cupreus is a peaceful schooling fish for a small community aquarium. The aquarium should be densely planted at the edges and background. A dimmed light by using floating plants and a dark substrate bring out the colours of the fish. A regular substantial water change is much appreciated.

This species was first described by Durbin in 1918.

Origin

South America, they inhabit the Amazon drainage in Brazil.

Diet

Small live food should be given as food. Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding Hemigrammus cupreus

I haven’t been able to find anything about breeding in the aquarium yet. Most likely similar to other Hemigrammus species.
