Labeo longipinnis

Labeo longipinnis is too large for our living room aquariums and can therefore only be kept in large show aquariums.

Labeo longipinnis

Like all African Labeo species, Labeo longipinnis grows too large for a normal aquarium. Although they live in groups, they form such a large territory within it that they can only be kept solitary in an aquarium. Labeo longipinnis grows to about 30 centimeters. Compared to other fish, they are quite peaceful, provided they do not have a similar body shape. Other bottom dwellers such as catfish are therefore best avoided.

Origin

Occurs in large river branches of the Congo. One sighting has been reported in Lake Tanganyika, but this is likely a misidentification.

Diet

In nature it mainly grazes aufwuchs. It is an omnivore, so sufficient variety must be provided. Vegetable food should not be missing from the menu.

Breeding

The breeding of Labeo longipinnis in the aquarium has not yet been successful.
