Nimbochromis venustus
Nimbochromis venustus was described by Boulenger in 1908. The genus name Nimbochromis can be divided into two parts: Nimbus after the Latin stormy or rainy and the Greek chromis which means fish. A reference to the dark cloud-like spots on their bodies. The species name venustus comes from Latin and means something like beautiful, graceful or elegant.
Synonyms: Haplochromis venustus, Cyrtocara venusta, Haplochromis simulans.
Description
The brown-gray venustus often takes on a blue color when it becomes sexually active, with the blue becoming most intense on its head (as seen in the photos below). In the wild, the venustus hunts small cichlids by burying itself lightly in the sand. There he remains very still until the prey comes within his reach.
