Parachromis friedrichsthalii
Parachromis friedrichsthalii can reach a length of about 25 centimeters. Its common name is the “Yellow Jacket Cichlid”. They can become yellow/orange with black stripes and spots.
This Central American cichlid has gone by many names. Recently, the well-known species Parachromis loisellei was also merged with Parachromis friedrichsthalii and thus became a synonym.
Synonyms: Heros friedrichsthalii, Astronotus friedrichsthalii, Cichlasoma friedrichsthalii, Parapetenia friedrichsthalii, Cichlosoma multifasciatum, Cichlasoma multifasciatum, Parapetenia multifasciata.
Character
It is a very aggressive fish, it is best to start with a group of 6 to 10 young fish from which a good couple is formed. The remaining fish must then be removed because of the aggression. They are territorial.
Origin
Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua.
The Aquarium
These fish require an aquarium of at least 2 meters. Decorate the aquarium with some flat stones and driftwood to provide sufficient hiding places. Use hard plants for the background and sides, generally the plants are left alone. The bottom should consist of sand or fine gravel.

Diet
They are omnivores, their preference is for solid live food such as mosquito larvae, shrimps and mussels, sometimes also beef heart. Frozen food and dry food are also accepted.
Breeding Parachromis friedrichsthalii
The breeding of the Parachromis friedrichsthalii is quite simple, between 1000 and 2000 eggs are laid and fertilized on a flat stone, both parents have brood care. When the eggs hatch after 5 to 7 days, the larvae are housed in breeding pits. The fry swim around freely after 7 days and are intensively monitored for a long time. They can be fed with brine shrimp nauplii.
