Placidochromis sp. ‘phenochilus tanzania’

sp. ‘phenochilus tanzania’ is a relatively calm Malawi cichlid, which is friendly towards other species but also towards conspecifics. The young males of this species initially turn blue. As the fish ages, more and more scales change color to a silver spot on the blue background. This gives the male a silver spotted pattern, which is attractive to see in the aquarium. Mutual skirmishes also occur with this species, but they are so gentle that damage never occurs. It is not a very assertive species, so it is best not to keep it together with very dominant large species.

Diet

Placidochromis sp. ‘phenochilus tanzania’ lives in Lake Malawi. from small live food that it sifts from the sand. They find these creatures by following other large sand-sifting cichlids such as Taeniolethrinops and Fossorochromis rostratus.
