Protomelas virgatus

Protomelas virgatus, a very beautifully colored malawi cichlid, peaceful towards other species

()

This beautiful Utaka is found at Monkey Bay, Nkomo Reef, Gome and Makanjila Point. Protomelas virgatus scrapes invertebrates from the rocks and is mainly found above sandy plains with rocks here and there. Some rocks are appreciated in the aquarium, but there must also be room for swimming. Due to its diet, this species requires a variety of food from granules, flakes, and spirulina to frozen brine shrimp, krill, and mysis.
