Freshwater Pufferfish

Pufferfish get their name from their behavior when in danger. They then suck up water, making them spherical. They then become much larger than they normally are. They hope that a possible predator will not eat them. This page is about the freshwater pufferfish.

Species

All freshwater puffers are part of the Tetraodontidae family. This family includes 28 genera and 203 species. Only about 30 of them occur in fresh water.
