Enneacanthus
Enneacanthus is a genus belonging to the family Centrarchidae or Sunfish. This genus was founded in 1864 by Gill. The genus name Enneacanthus can be broken down into two Greek words. “Ennea” means “nine” and “Akantha” means “thorn”. This is a reference to the nine hard fin rays in the dorsal fin of this genus.
Species
There are only three species in the genus, each of which can grow to about 10 centimetres in length. All three species are kept in aquariums and ponds.
