Parachanna

The genus Parachanna has only three described species. There is probably one remaining undescribed species. The name Parachana can be broken down into two words. Para means close, a reference to the relationship with the Channa genus from Asia. Channa comes from ancient Greek and means Anchovis.

The three described species are:

Parachanna africana (Steindachner, 1879)
Parachanna insignis (Sauvage, 1884)
Parachanna obscura (Günther, 1861)

Origin

The species in the genus Parachanna come from Africa. They inhabit the freshwater rivers in tropical Africa.
