Parachanna
The genus Parachanna has only three described species. There is probably one remaining undescribed species. The name Parachana can be broken down into two words. Para means close, a reference to the relationship with the Channa genus from Asia. Channa comes from ancient Greek and means Anchovis.
The three described species are:
Parachanna africana (Steindachner, 1879)
Parachanna insignis (Sauvage, 1884)
Parachanna obscura (Günther, 1861)
Origin
The species in the genus Parachanna come from Africa. They inhabit the freshwater rivers in tropical Africa.
