Aristochromis

The genus Aristochromis was described by Trewavas in 1935. The name can be broken down into two ancient Greek words: artistos meaning ‘the best’ and Chromis meaning ‘colour’. However, in this context it refers to the group of cichlids (often brightly colored). She named this genus Aristochromis because this species reminded her of an aristocrat. The genus is monotypic. This means that it harbors only one species: Aristochromis christyi.
