Copadichromis

The genus Copadichromis was described in 1989 by David H. Eccles and E. Trewavas in the book Malawian cichlid fishes. The Classification of some Haplochromine genera.

The genus name Copadichromis can be broken down into two ancient Greek words. Kopadi means school (as in shoal of fish). Chromis means color but in this context, it refers to cichlids. A reference to this genus’s habit of forming schools.
