Lamprologus
The genus Lamprologus was officially described by Louise Schilthuis in 1891. The type specimen is Lamprologus congoensis.
Lamprologus first description
The name Lamprologus can be divided into two parts. Lampros comes from ancient Greek and means brilliant or bright. Logus is a Latinized version of logus and means word or expression. Translated, the genus name means something like study of brilliance, a reference to the neat pattern of bright blue dots on the flank of the type species Lamprologus congoensis.
