Nandopsis

The genus Nandopsis was described in 1862 by Gill. The name is actually a mystery. You can break the genus name down into two ancient Greek words. Nano means ‘dwarf’ and opsi means ‘resembling’. However, the type species Nandopsis tetracanthus is 20 centimeters long, not really a dwarf?

The genus Nandopsis is home to only three species.

Origin

The three species of Nandopsis are only found in the Caribbean (Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti).
