The genus Anomalochromis is monotypic. This means that the genus has only one species: Anomalochromis thomasi.

Origin

Anomalochromis is native to West Africa in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. There they inhabit the rivers in the forested areas. The water is usually rich in oxygen and slightly acidic.
