Aristochromis
The genus Aristochromis was described in 1935 by Trewavas. The name can be broken down into two ancient Greek words: artistos means ‘the best’ and Chromis means ‘color’. However, in this context, it refers to the group of cichlids (often brightly colored). She named this genus Aristochromis because this species reminded her of an aristocrat.
The genus is monotypic. This means that it hosts only one species: Aristochromis christyi.
