Trigonostigma
Trigonostigma is a genus with five known species to date. Previously, these species belonged to the genus Rasbora, but were split off in 1999 by Kottelat & Witte.
Description
The species of the genus Trigonostigma are distinguished from other species by their small body length of up to 35 mm standard length. They have a unique pattern on their flank. This consists of a black ax shape to stripe on the center of the body. The lateral line is not complete and is limited to six to nine scales with pores.
Origin
You can find the Trigonostigma species in Southeast Asia. They inhabit the more acidic wetlands in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Reproduction
The reproduction of these species also takes place differently than with other Rasbora species. The eggs are laid by the parents on the underside of the leaves. The fish swim upside down for this.
