Gastromyzontidae

The family Gastromyzontidae is a family of loaches from China and Southeast Asia. They are found in fast-flowing rivers and streams. The family includes approximately eight genera and 137 species.

This family was returned by M. Kottelat in his revision of the loaches:
Conspectus cobitidum: an inventory of the loaches of the world. These species have therefore split off from the family Balitoridae, which are also called stone creepers.
