Panaque
The genus Panaque currently has about seven valid species. It is possible that this number will increase, as a number of species that have not yet been formally described are known. The name Panaque comes from Venezuelan and is the local name for this type of fish.
They are distinguished from other species within the Loricariidae family by the shape of their teeth. These are spoon-shaped. The teeth are narrower at the base than at the tip. In other Loricariidae species, the teeth are straight from the base to the tip.
Diet
All Panaque scrape some wood. If you want to keep a Panaque in your aquarium, then the presence of wood is necessary for digestion. Tablets with wood fibers can help with this. They also like to eat fresh vegetables such as cucumber, peas, and zucchini.
