Pristobrycon

Pristobrycon is a genus within the family Serrasalmidae and belongs to the Piranhas. The genus was founded in 1915 by Eigenmann and should form an intermediate step between the Pygocentrus and Serrasalmus genera. Currently, this genus includes five species.

The genus does not have a characteristic that applies to all species within the genus. This would no longer be accepted within contemporary science. New research will therefore ensure further adjustment of this gender.

Diet

The species within the Pristobrycon genus feed mainly on seeds and fruits. After stomach examination, most of the food turned out to be vegetable. However, a small part also consisted of the fins of other fish species.
