Labeo barbatus

Labeo barbatus can reach a total length of more than 60 centimetres. Too large for our living room aquariums and can therefore only be kept in large show aquariums. They are very aggressive and combative towards conspecifics. They are quite peaceful with other fish species. The aquarium should be decorated with rocks and driftwood and a dense border and background vegetation. It is best to use fine sand as a substrate.

Origin

Congo river.

Diet

It is omnivorous so plenty of variety should be provided. Vegetable food should also be included on the menu.

Breeding

As far as we could find, Labeo barbatus has not been bred in captivity yet.
