Squirrel and soldier fish (Holocentridae) are the sole family of the order Holocentriformes. These predatory fish are found in the tropical Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. They have large and somewhat bulging eyes, rough scales and a long spine at the beginning of the anal fin. They are active at night and hide in caves or rock crevices during the day. There are 90 species, united in 8 genera.
