Pethia

The genus Pethia is part of the Carp and Minnow family (Cyprinidae) and has approximately 34 species. Members of this genus are almost exclusively found in India, Sri Lanka and northern Myanmar. The name Pethia comes from the Sinhale language of Sri Lanka and is a local name given to all the small cyprinids that swim around there.

Most members of the Pethia genus reach a standard length of no more than 5 centimeters at most, with a few exceptions of 8 centimeters.
