Botiidae
The family Botiidae was previously a subfamily of the Cobitidae. In 2009, W.J. Chen, V. Lheknim, and R. L. Maydende reclassified the loach family. This subfamily was elevated to a family.
Many of the species within this family have a pointed snout, hence the Dutch name Spitskop Loaches. The species that remained in the family Cobitidae often have a much blunter snout.
Genra and species Botiidae
The family Botiidae includes eight genera and about 56 species. Many of these species remain somewhat smaller, approximately between 6 and 30 centimeters. A number of Botiidae can also be found in the aquarium trade.
